The best time for a Ramadan donation is a plan made before Ramadan begins.
Ramadan 2027 begins on 8 February 2027; donations such as iftar, Fitrah, Fidyah, Zakat, food parcels and Eid clothes each have an ideal time. In this guide we have gathered in a single calendar what to give from Austria and when.

- Ramadan 2027: 8 February – 8 March 2027; Eid al-Fitr 9–11 March 2027 (Diyanet calendar).
- Food parcel (€40) and iftar (€3,50 per person): if given at the start of Ramadan, distribution continues throughout the month.
- Fitrah (€15 per person) at the latest before the Eid prayer; Fidyah €15 per day.
- Eid clothes (€40): if given by the middle of Ramadan, they arrive in time for Eid.
When does Ramadan 2027 begin?
According to the calendar of Diyanet (Turkish Presidency of Religious Affairs):
- First fast: 8 February 2027 (Monday),
- Last fast: 8 March 2027,
- Eid al-Fitr: 9–11 March 2027.
Accordingly, Ramadan 2027 is planned as 29 days.
Fasting and prayer times in Austria vary from city to city; for up-to-date times you can follow the announcements of the Islamic Religious Community in Austria (IGGÖ).
The importance of giving in Ramadan
Ramadan is the month in which the Qur'an was revealed (al-Baqarah 2/185). Muslims have made it a tradition to increase their good deeds in this month.
It is narrated that the Prophet's (pbuh) generosity was at its greatest in Ramadan (Bukhari, Bad' al-Wahy 5; Muslim, Fada'il 50).
The hadith “Whoever provides iftar for a fasting person earns the same reward as them, without the fasting person's reward being diminished in the slightest” (Tirmidhi, Sawm 82) also explains why the iftar donation is so beloved.
Types of Ramadan donation
Donations in Ramadan fall into two groups: religious obligations (Fitrah, Fidyah, Zakat) and voluntary donations (iftar, food parcels, Eid clothes, Sadaqah).
1. Iftar meal donation — €3,50 per person
Providing iftar for a fasting person is one of the best-known good deeds of Ramadan.
At Austria Yetim Eli, the iftar meal donation is €3,50 per person.
- Iftar for 3 people: 10,50 €
- Iftar for 20 people: 70 €
- Iftar for 100 people: €350 — for iftars of 100 people or more, a video is shared.
2. Ramadan food parcel — €40
A Ramadan food parcel is intended to cover a family in need's basic provisions and costs €40.
Since the parcels are used for suhoor and iftar throughout the month, it is most beneficial to give them before Ramadan starts or in the first few days.
3. Fitrah — €15 per person
Fitrah is a wajib act of worship that every Muslim who owns wealth equal to the Nisab gives for themselves and for those they are responsible for supporting.
The minimum amount announced by Diyanet for Europe in 2026 is €15; the amount for 2027 has not yet been announced. For details, see our guide how much is Fitrah.
You can give your Fitrah in a few minutes on our online Fitrah donation page.
4. Fidyah — €15 per day
Those who cannot fast due to old age or chronic illness and will not be able to make up the fasts pay Fidyah for each day.
For the 29-day Ramadan of 2027, the total is €435. We explain who must pay it in our article what is fasting Fidyah; to pay, you can use the Fidyah donation page.
5. Zakat — 2,5% of wealth
Zakat is not an act of worship tied to Ramadan; it becomes obligatory when a lunar year has passed over wealth that has reached the Nisab.
Still, many Muslims align their Zakat year with Ramadan and pay it during this month.
The Nisab is 80,18 grams of gold and the rate is 2,5% (one fortieth). To calculate it, use our guide calculating Zakat in Austria, and to pay, our Zakat donation page.
6. Eid clothing aid — €40
A child waking up on Eid morning in new clothes is the most beautiful expression of the joy of Eid.
Eid clothing aid is €40. If you would like to choose items such as shoes, trousers and tops individually for orphans, take a look at our clothing an orphan project.
7. Sadaqah and lasting good deeds
Sadaqah given in Ramadan is valuable, whatever the amount. For those who want to leave a lasting legacy, Sadaqah Jariyah (water well, mosque, Qur'an) is a wonderful option.
More details: what is Sadaqah and examples of Sadaqah Jariyah.
You can add iftar, Fitrah, Fidyah, Zakat and food parcels to the same basket and complete them in one payment.

Distributions abroad require preparation and logistics. The calendar below is designed so that your donation arrives right on time.
| When | Recommended donation | Why? |
|---|---|---|
| January 2027 | Zakat calculation, budget planning | Finalise your annual Zakat and your Ramadan budget; the Fitrah amount for 2027 is usually announced around this time |
| Before Ramadan (1–7 February) | Food parcel (€40), iftar | Parcels are used from the first suhoor onwards |
| First 10 days of Ramadan (8–17 February) | Iftar, Fidyah, Fitrah | Fidyah can be given as a lump sum; Fitrah given early arrives in time for Eid preparations |
| Middle of Ramadan (18–27 February) | Eid clothes (€40), clothing an orphan | Leaves time for shopping and delivery |
| Last 10 days (28 February – 8 March) | Zakat, Sadaqah, Sadaqah Jariyah | The days in which Laylat al-Qadr is sought; a time to increase good deeds |
| 9 March 2027, before the Eid prayer | Last chance for Fitrah | Fitrah must be paid before the Eid prayer |
Giving in the last ten days and on Laylat al-Qadr
The last ten days of Ramadan are the days in which Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Power) is sought. Surah al-Qadr states that this night is better than a thousand months (al-Qadr 97/3).
Muslims in Türkiye and Europe traditionally observe the 27th night of Ramadan as Laylat al-Qadr; in 2027 this night falls in the first week of March.
Many donors prefer to give their Zakat or Sadaqah Jariyah during these days.
However, donations that require distribution (Fitrah, Eid clothes, food parcels) should not be left to the last ten days; otherwise they may not arrive in time for Eid.
Common mistakes with Ramadan donations
- Leaving everything to the last week: donations such as food parcels and Eid clothes need preparation; donations given early arrive more promptly.
- Forgetting Fitrah: someone who gives Zakat must also give Fitrah; they are two different acts of worship.
- Confusing Fidyah with making up fasts: for a temporary illness, making up the fasts (qada) is required, not Fidyah.
- Estimating Zakat: calculate the Nisab and your net wealth using the current gold price; if you are unsure, consult an imam.
- Going over budget: plan the obligations first (Fitrah, Zakat, Fidyah), then the voluntary donations.
Example scenario: the Ramadan budget of a family of four in Innsbruck
A family in Innsbruck – mother, father and two young children – plans their Ramadan 2027 donations as follows:
| Donation | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Fitrah | 4 persons × €15 | 60 € |
| Ramadan food parcel | 2 parcels × €40 | 80 € |
| Iftar | 20 persons × €3,50 | 70 € |
| Eid clothes | 1 children × €40 | 40 € |
| Total | 250 € |
Zakat is calculated separately according to the family's savings. For example, if net zakatable wealth is €12.000, the Zakat is 12.000 × 2,5% = €300.
If an elderly family member cannot fast, Fidyah is added: 29 × €15 = €435.
All of these donations can be given in one payment using the basket system.
How to make a Ramadan donation from Austria
- Choose the type of donation on the Ramadan campaign page.
- Enter the number of people, days or parcels as the quantity and add it to your basket.
- You can also add other projects (e.g. Palestine emergency aid) to the same basket.
- Pay by Card / Online (Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, EPS) or PayPal; or, if you prefer, make a bank transfer.
- After donating you receive a thank-you email, and once the payment is confirmed, the receipt.
Ramadan donation online or by bank transfer?
Both are possible. With Card / Online and PayPal payments, your donation is recorded instantly and your receipt arrives by email after confirmation.
If you prefer a bank transfer, writing the type of donation in the payment reference (e.g. “Fitrah 4 people”) makes it easier to allocate your donation correctly.
For time-critical donations (Fitrah, Eid clothes), online payment eliminates the bank transfer time, which can take several working days.

According to the Diyanet calendar, the first fast will be on 8 February 2027. Eid al-Fitr falls on 9–11 March 2027.
Which donations are made in Ramadan?
The main ones are iftar meals, Ramadan food parcels, Fitrah, Fidyah, Zakat, Eid clothes and Sadaqah. Fitrah is wajib, Zakat is fard if the conditions are met, and the others are voluntary.
Must Zakat be given in Ramadan?
It is not required. Zakat is given when a lunar year has passed over wealth that has reached the Nisab. However, aligning one's Zakat year with Ramadan is a common choice.
Can a Ramadan donation be given on behalf of someone else?
Yes. You can give iftar, food parcels or Sadaqah on behalf of your parents, deceased relatives or a friend. For Fitrah and Fidyah, the person's permission and intention are essential; it is enough to note in the comments field on whose behalf you are giving.

Iftar and food parcel donations are distributed throughout Ramadan, Fitrah before Eid, and Eid clothes before Eid. That is why we recommend giving donations that require distribution at the start or in the first half of Ramadan.
